I’m not sure there’s such a thing as a BEST martial arts style… each have their strengths and weaknesses – and honestly, each will appeal to an individual in different ways. (i.e., …if you’ve got stronger upper body strength, you might prefer a striking style (karate) versus a kicking style (tae kwon do))
Of course, there’s always the mythical Jeet Kun Do which Bruce Lee created which was supposed to be formless and fully adaptable to the situation. But I’m not sure if that was ever perfected prior to his death (or if it even COULD be perfected) – I’ve always thought of modern practitioners of this to be interpreting what he was teaching.
I guess the best martial art for you would be whatever you find best suits you and you develop a passion for. The best style for you is the one that you’re the best at.

MMA is the best all around style though it is more a hybrid with the same concept as Kajukenbo take what works and throw away what doesn’t.
In my opinion no other Modern Day Martial Artist can be followed more than Mr.Gene Lebell.
He is complete as a Martial Artist. So I am forced to say by actual proof
Judo -man he beat a pro boxer back when no one thought that was possible, add all his wins. Now you tell me, he is great, as he has proven is his style.
Next BJJ and Thai as a Sport top art, then wrestling and western boxing.

no best martial art just those martial arts that have the potential to create the mental and physical attributes in a person to make them a strong fighter and those that dont

I used to take gojuryu karate and hated it. But that might have just been the sensei that was teaching and the school. I think the best kind is a mix of styles. I hear brazillian boxing was good although I’ve never actually took that.

MMA, though i support kung fu since its considered the base of many martial arts like TKD and karate, MMA is the most practical.
my school combines my kung fu style with MMA because the low stances will never work unless u are fighting and u know lower stances are better.
i agree 100% with chuck, san shou works.

Each style is as good as you make it. There have been styles that have had famous people who USED them well because that style worked well with their body and mind. Namely Bruce Lee with Jeet Kun Do, Helio Gracie with Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, Hou Juan Xia with Wushu, and Muhammed Ali with Western Boxing. However they were the ones that made the art work, the art didn’t work itself.
Which means there is no best art. It is only as good as you make it.
please look here to get a better detail of what I mean:

Your question cannot be answered since you haven’t qualified best for what? By what measure would one style be better than another?
But that said, the best one for you is probably the one that you’ll actually dedicate yourself [to].

You know my opinion is based on the fact that I train in this sport, but it’d have to be Muay Thai. If you like Karate then you would find this interesting as you train with:
- elbows
- knees
- kicks
- punches
- grappling
and like with your sport it is a true test of character, only you can make / break yourself and you can only improve.
Check out some good fights on

I think BJJ is one of the best and has proved it self. Learning MMA is real good though.

I think that is a matter of opinion based on what an individual would like to learn and why.
If you would like to learn a good form of self defense, try Kokondo or Jukido. Read more about them at my sources.

The one that you create for yourself. What better way can there be for you than your way. If you train in something other than, all your doing is training the way someone else found that worked for them. Unless your that person it will not work the same for you. But I think of it in a diff. way. I think as self-defense and real life encounters not kata or points.

I know we are supposed to be all mystical and say oh all martial arts are good in their own way and that none is best. But the truth is that if you want a martial art, learn somethin that has a lot of grappling and also teaches punching and kicking. I did taekwondo for a while and it has some powerful kicks and can work well if you get a kick to sum1’s head in a fight, but if the other person grabs a hold of you, it wont work and they will win. Jujitsu is somethin i would recommend, or mix some martial arts and cross train them. I regulary fight my mate who is a kickboxer for practice and every single time i just wait for him to throw a few strikes (i stay back and am cautious and let him wear himself out) then i just grab him and pull him to the floor and lock his arm. (But i am aware that if he did punch me in the face it wuld hurt considerably).
